Macclesfield Male Voice Choir
Macclesfield Male Voice Choir

About us

The Macclesfield Male Voice Choir was established in 1955 and now numbers over 70 choristers from all walks of life. The atmosphere, camaraderie and fellowship within the choir are unparalleled and there is a very warm welcome for any male wishing to join the choir, provided they have a love and enthusiasm for singing.  It is not necessary to be able to read music.

We are a non-profit making organisation and provide support to local charities by performing in fund-raising concerts throughout the region. We have held a concerts at the Royal Northern College of Music in aid of CALL and, more locally, have sung in aid of the Leonard Cheshire Homes and for “Action for Children”. Members of the choir also enjoy entertaining residents of various residential homes, especially at Christmas time.

We have toured the United Kingdom from Edinburgh to Brixham via Carmarthen. Internationally, we have sung in Canada, Ireland, Germany, Denmark and the Czech Republic.  In 2006 the choir achieved a Bronze Award at the Prague Festival of Advent Music and in 2011 won the Male Voice competition at the Isle of Man Festival of Choirs.

We have a varied repertoire consisting of songs from operas and popular musicals, spirituals and traditional male voice pieces, including sacred music. The choir has produced 2 CDs.

Choir rehearsals take place at Broken Cross Methodist Church from 7.30 to 9.30 on a Monday evening. New members are always welcome, please call in to a rehearsal or contact the Secretary by phone (01625 432282) or send an E-mail.
