CHOIR GALA SUCCESS!
Macclesfield Male Voice Choir, recent winners of the Ambassador of Macclesfield Award, held their Annual Gala Concert at the Fallibroome Academy on Saturday, 27th April to a packed audience of nearly 300 people. The choir was on great form and they were joined by three young guest soloists from the Royal Northern College of music, Nikki Martin, Eleanor Hull and Alice Barry. The soloists, in complete contrast to the music and sound of a male voice choir, sang songs from the shows including Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera, together with songs from The American Song Book and other modern and popular favourites. The choir entertained the audience with exciting range of both religious and secular numbers including surprising the audience with a thrilling male voice rendition of Freddie Mercury’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ to thunderous applause.
Harry Newton, Chairman of the Choir said ‘We are absolutely thrilled that the people of Macclesfield and the surrounding area supported us so well on this truly memorable evening. We have received many letters and emails congratulating us on providing such a wonderful evening of music. Under the musical direction of our inspirational young Welsh conductor, Robert Owens, ably assisted by our highly accomplished pianist, Tatyana Goncharuk, we intend to continue to grow and learn in the years ahead of us, in order to continue to be the best ‘Ambassador of Macclesfield’ which we were so honoured to receive at the recent Macclesfield Civic Awards presentation. We are now looking forward to appearing with other choirs in The Bollington Festival marquee on Sunday 19th May 2019 and then our joint concert with the Chapel-en-le-Frith Ladies Choir at Macclesfield United Reformed Church on Saturday 1st June 2019'.
The Choir was formed 64 years ago and now numbers around 60 choristers.
We perform concerts locally and further afield including several overseas trips.
